Fenton Student Places in Kettering Math Competition
Matthew Bauerle of Fenton took third place in the 11th annual Kettering University Math Olympiad in December.
The Math Olympiad is a competition designed to identify and encourage students with interests and abilities in mathematics. The competition is for students in 9th-12th grades and consists of six challenging problems and has a time limit of four hours. The problems range from ‘mind-benders’ that require little mathematical skills to problems that require the knowledge of geometry, trigonometry and beginning calculus. No calculators are allowed during competition.
David Lu of Bloomfield Hills won first place and Mayank Patke of Okemos was second. For more information on the event, visit: http://paws.kettering.edu/~acheng/Olympiad/.
