Brandon Hayes Sentenced to Life in Prison
Corrine Baker gets 13 to 30 years for role in death of her son Dominick Calhoun.
Brandon Hayes will spend the rest of his life in prison and his ex-girlfriend Corrine Baker will serve 13 to 30 years for the murder of Dominick Calhoun, a judge declared Monday in Genesee County.
On Jan. 19, a jury found Hayes, formerly of Tyrone Township, guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend's son Dominick Calhoun, 4, in an Argentine apartment in April of 2010. Along with first-degree murder, Hayes was found guilty on 10 total counts, including torture and child abuse.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton tweet Monday, "most brutal crime I've ever prosecuted."
Baker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August for not protecting her son and agreed to testify against co-defendant Hayes.
Baker was able to say a few words before she learned her sentenced.
"I have to live with the death of my son every single day. I made horrible choices all of my life," Baker told the court, according to WNEM TV 5. "I will have to answer to God and I only hope, that I will be forgiven."
She cried as she entered the courtroom Monday, according to the Livingston Daily Press & Argus.
“I will never forget Dominck,” she said, according to the article. “Brandon Hayes took him away, but I will not let them take away the memories.”

"I do want them both (Hayes and Baker) to understand Dominick's going live for a long time. He's going to create happiness for other children that aren't going to have to go through this," said the boy's grandfather Rick Calhoun, to ABC TV 12, talking about state laws the family is working on getting passed.
Deerfield Township resident Roberta Pechota said she used to live across the street from Corrine Baker’s parents.
"Life is too easy for him! This still breaks my heart!" she posted on the Fenton Patch Facebook Page.
