The old building being demolished has an interesting history. It was built (I'd say late 1950s) as a Stuckey's, which were an early highway chain of restaurants with clean restrooms for travelers. Some still exist, mostly in the south. They had/have stand-up tables, on the theory that people want to stand while eating, since they've been sitting behind the wheel for the last three hours or so.

Anyway, there was a Mr. Stuckey. He'd drive north, for instance, on the highway until he had to use a restroom. That's how he'd decide where his next restaurant should be located. Pretty simple, but it worked. And it was Fenton's first US-23 restaurant (formerly Fenton-Clio Expressway) since there was nothing else then at the Owen Road exit.

Anybody remember Stuckey's? Those were the days.....

I visited Stuckey's regularly with my grandparents. It was light turquoise decor. Red seats at a fountain bar! Famous for their pecan rolls!

Have they worked out a new exit/entrance strategy???? the old one was way to dangerous....

I remember Stuckey's being in Holly at I-75 and Grange Hall Rd. They were there into the late 70's.

I remember Stuckey's!! It was my first REAL job (other than baby sitting) I went to school down the Rd at Fenton High School. After school, went to Stuckey's to work. I made about $1.40 per hour!!!

If your entering the location from the east and leaving heading west it's fine. Other than that forget it. I believe this is why this building sat vacant so long

Why not open its parking lot up so you can drive into the K-Mart parking lot or vice ver-sa.
