Dive Teams Searching for Missing Man in Lake Fenton

Visitor from out of town was with friends when he dove off a boat and didn't resurface last night.

Dive teams from the Michigan State Police and Genesee County Sheriff's Department are still searching for a man from out of town who dove into Lake Fenton last night and did not resurface.

The man, who is about 25 years old, was with a group of friends when he jumped off a boat to cool off, said Capt. Terence Green of the Genesee County Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Department received the emergency call around 9:30 p.m. yesterday.

"Our dive team was activated," Green said.

They began searching last night but were unsuccessful due to visibility problems, he said. The search began again at 8 a.m. this morning, with the Genesee County Sheriff's Department requesting the Michigan State Police Dive Team and its sonar.

The state police are using sonar to search the lake bottom, said Trooper Austin Hessling, of the Michigan State Police (MSP) Dive Team from the Caro Post. Based on sonar images, divers will enter the lake to search in the area of the images.

The Fenton Township Fire Department and STAT EMS also were on the scene this afternoon.

It is the second water search this week for a missing person in a Fenton Township lake. West Frescura, 11, of Fenton, drowned in Marl Lake on Sunday. A diver from the Michigan State Police Flint Post's dive team discovered Frescura's body.
