Dominick Calhoun's Mother Takes Stand in Murder Trial

Former Tyrone Township woman Corrine Baker said ex-boyfriend Brandon Hayes was in a 'rage.'

Dominick Calhoun's mother provided powerful testimony Wednesday in a Genesee County courtroom at the trial of the man accused of murdering her son.

Her ex-boyfriend, , stands accused of beating 4-year-old Argentine Township boy Dominick to death in 2010. Dominick's mother, Corrine Baker, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August for not protecting her son and agreed to testify against co-defendant Hayes. On day four of the trial, Baker, a former Tyrone Township resident, took stand for nearly two and half hours, according to the Flint Journal.

"He was in a rage, he was angry," Baker said of Hayes, according to the Flint Journal article. “On Saturday (April 10) Brandon started getting physical with Dominick. He threw him against the wall (3 or 4 feet away)."

Detective Arch Ravert, of the Argentine Township Police Department, testified Tuesday that Hayes initially said Baker was the one who had beaten the boy, but then later offered what he described as a confession, reported WHMI (93.5 FM).

David Dwyer of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department testified in court Wednesday that Hayes admitted he kicked Dominick in the groin and hit him 10 to 20 times over three days, according to the Livingston Daily Press & Argus. Hayes showed no emotion when he turned his head to glance at the photographs of Dominick's injuries that were displayed on an overhead projector, the article stated.

Dominicks's 10-year-old half-brother Tyler took the stand for about 10 minutes, according to WNEM-TV, Channel 5, and said he didn't remember much, but recalled being pushed by Hayes.

Brandon Hayes, a former Tyrone Township resident, could face life in prison if convicted of murder and child abuse.

The case is set to continue at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
