Fenton Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect
Police say the suspect robbed Clark Gas Station in Fenton at gunpoint Wednesday.
Fenton Police arrested a 23-year-old Fenton resident after an armed robbery at a Fenton gas station and brief standoff at home Wednesday afternoon.
Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said police received a call from the Clark Gas Station on North Leroy Street at 2:17 p.m. Wednesday when a clerk told police she was robbed at gunpoint. The report stated that the man had a black pistol in his waistband and demanded money.
Police said she told officers the suspect wearing a camouflaged jack and hat with jeans left the store and headed east on Third Street. The clerk also told police that she may have recognized the man as a regular customer, who lived in the area, according to report.
Aro said police waited about 10 minutes for a Genesee County Sheriff’s Department canine unit to track the suspect. The dog followed a trail to a home on the 800 block of Third Street, the report stated. Police surrounded the home and tried to contact the homeowner, when one officer observed an individual with a weapon trying to leave the residence through a rear bedroom window, Aro said.
Officers ordered the man to put down the weapon, Aro said. After a brief standoff, the man came out of the home unarmed and police arrested him around 3:20 p.m. Aro said the man matched the description from the gas station clerk. Police searched the home and recovered the weapon, the stolen cash and other evidence.
Aro said the suspect gave a full statement and was lodged at the Genesee County Jail. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday afternoon. He will be charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a felony and possession of a stolen firearm.
Aro said Tomek-Eastern Elementary School was put on lockdown during the incident.

We live on third it was surreal watching this happen but very happy on the police's job, Clark employee. We were glad he got caught. We never seen this happen here before, been living near Clark since 1995.

Tomek has been in a secured state since Newtown. It would be nice if local media would quit sensationalizing that aspect.

This is the third (at least) armed robbery in the Fenton/Linden area from the Linden road home invasion last year, Walgreens on Silver Parkway and now this Clark gas station on Leroy. These are not petty theft-garage break ins either. Very concerning to say the least...
