Lake Fenton Football Looking to Stop Losing Streak vs. Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard
Blue Devils have lost three times by a total of 11 points to the Fighting Irish the last three seasons.
Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard has been a thorn in the Lake Fenton’s side for the last three seasons.
The Fighting Irish have beaten the Blue Devils three times by a total of 11 points, however, all three defeats have come in the regular season.
Lake Fenton is hoping to knock off host Gabriel Richard 1 p.m. Saturday in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 5 playoffs.
The Blue Devils fell 42-39 to the Fighting Irish in the season opener.
“We have to execute Saturday, eliminate the mistakes we made against them in our first meeting, misalignment defensively, turnovers offensively,” Lake Fenton coach Eric Doyle said. “I believe if we can get lined up correctly against them, we’ll be OK.”
The Blue Devils have used a potent offense to go 8-2 so far this season. The squad has put up a school record 468 points, never being held to less than 21 points. The 9-1 Fighting Irish also have a strong offense that put up 342 points this season.
“I believe if we can get lined up correctly against them, we’ll be OK. They do a really nice job of formation-ing. You to get mismatches and were able to do that to us the first time,” Doyle said.
The winner will take on the victor of the River Rouge (10-0) vs. Almont (7-3) contest in the regional playoffs.
“I’m sure Richard feels they made some mistakes the first time around but our kids know that we did. They are excited to show how much they have improved,” Doyle said.
