Man Killed in Tyrone Township Crash

47-year-old Michael Herrell, of Flint, was killed after losing control on icy roads and striking a semi trailer on US 23.

A Flint man was killed Wednesday morning in a car accident that closed a US-23 ramp in Tyrone Township for three hours, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

Police said that 47-year-old Michael Herrell lost control of his 1997 Chevrolet S-10 on icy roads while exiting the freeway at Center Road. Herrell struck the rear of a 2003 Hyundai 53-foot semi-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the off ramp and was killed.

The driver of the semi truck, 51-year-old Melvin Roe of Rhodes, was not injured in the crash and alcohol does not appear to be a factor, police said.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by personnel from the Fenton City Fire Department, Livingston County EMS and the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Traffic Safety Bureau.
