Many people commented in a recent Fenton Patch poll that they'd like to see a new library in Fenton and a recent study suggests major improvements need to be made at the current facility.

The Fenton City Council has asked Manager Lynn Markland to begin the process for a feasibility study of the current Jack R. Winegarden Library back in June.

The study would tell the city whether it should put more money into its current building, or start thinking of a new location for the library.

Those numbers are in and repairs could be in the range $200,000 or more, while a new building could cost $5.2 milllion, according to the Tri-County Times.

The city converted its former U.S. Post Office on Caroline Street to a library.

The study showed the building needs more book storage, more meeting and study rooms and more public work stations in addition to needing new windows, roof and lighting upgrades, according to the Flint Journal.

"...The library is in dire need of replacement. Not only is it simply weird to put a library in an old post office, but the space is totally insufficient for the use that building gets," Glenn Fischer posted on Fenton Patch.
