Welcome Back, Winter! Snow Expected Thursday, Friday
Here's a look at the weather forecast for Thursday and Friday in Fenton.
It's been a good ride these past couple weeks as Michigan residents enjoyed unseasonably warm weather – some in Troy even hit the links to play a round of golf on Friday – but we knew the mild weather just couldn't last.
Today, rain will change over to a mix of rain and snow as temperatures fall from a high near 42 degrees to just above freezing by late afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.
The mix will then change over to all snow after 10 p.m. Snow accumulation of around an inch to two inches is possible overnight, and winds will pick up to between 7 and 15 m.p.h. with gusts as high as 21 m.p.h.
Friday will be much cooler with a high near 29 and a low around 16. Winds will continue between 16 and 20 m.p.h. with gusts as high as 24 m.p.h., and additional snow accumulation of 1-3 inches is possible.
Temperatures over the weekend and into next week will stay below freezing throughout the day, though snow is not in the forecast again until Monday and Tuesday.
The cold weather might be just in time to save the Lake Fenton Winter Classic. Organizer Sean Lapham said a decision will be made Monday to determine if the hockey tournament will be held Jan. 27 - 29 or pushed to its backup dates of Feb. 17 - 19 because of ice (or lack of ice) conditions.
