The Motor City Brass Band's Festival of Bands is about bringing together musicians from all over Michigan. Midwest Artists Invited to Apply for Michigan Fine Arts Competition

The exhibit, which is one of the largest of its kind in the state, is scheduled for June 28-Aug. 30 at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center; the application deadline is May 20.

The Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center is looking for entries for the annual Michigan Fine Arts Competition — but this year, it's not just about Michigan. This year, the juried art exhibit and competition — to be held June 28-Aug. 23 at the area art center on Cranbrook — will welcome artists from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin. "We're very excited about expanding the scope of this important exhibit and are eager to see the influx of work from Michigan's neighboring states," said Annie VanGelderen, BBAC president and CEO. "Our intent, in broadening the show, is to also increase visitors to Michigan and to the BBAC. Fenton ArtWalk Looking for Artists

Event will be held in conjunction with Bastille Day in Fenton on July 13.

The Fenton Downtown Development Authority is looking for artists for the 3rd annual Fenton ArtWalk, held in conjunction with The Laundry’s 2013 Bastille Day 5K Run/Walk and 15K Run, Saturday July 13. The Fenton ArtWalk will run 11 a.m.  to 4 p.m., and will be located in Downtown Fenton, at Leroy, from Shiawassee to the Fenton Hotel. Every kind of talented artisan is an ideal participant. Art will go through a review process to ensure fine art integrity. Fenton Film Series to Present Hysteria

Film showing to take place at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center.

On Wednesday, Feb. 13th, the Fenton Film Series will present  Hysteria, a British romantic comedy starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hugh Dancy, Rubert Everett and Felicity Jones.  The comedy gives serious lesson on the social history of women's health care.  The movie is set in 19th century London and portrays the era's backward state of medical science. The film uses the history of gynecology as a backdrop for a romantic comedy.  In Victorian London, almost every female complaint to their doctor was diagnosed as "hysteria" and treated in shocking and comical ways. The film has met with phenomenal success at film festivals worldwide and now comes to Fenton.  "It's a movie you can watch with your parents or your adult children and not blush...…

My wife and I had the opportunity to see the movie here in Bogota several months back. There is a good deal of humor, though an almost predictable ending. Great acting all around. Love the period home decoration. Excellent couples movie. I recommend to make it a romantic evening and go out for dinner as well. But I do not recommend taking the kids even if they are adults.   more ›
