The recent tragedy in Connecticut reminded me of a situation a few years ago. It hit me so hard that it caused me to write the song called, "Could You Forgive?" While I believe it may be fitting for the current massacre, let me go back to that time in the little Amish village....

It was October, 2006. A little, one-room school house in Paradise, PA. A lone gunman walked in and proceeded to shoot ten, defenseless Amish girls. Five of them were killed. Even though we live in a very violent nation, and maybe getting somewhat used to the murder and mayhem, we were all still blown away by that cowardly act.

Perhaps what struck me even more was the immediate, and total forgiveness of the Amish community towards the shooter. This was a completely new concept to me. How is it even possible to forgive a person who just murdered your child? Murder is forever! The children are gone forever! Yet the murderer was forgiven. This was, and continues to be unthinkable to me.

Hence, the song, "Could You Forgive?" along with the resulting question. If this happened to you, and you child was taken from you, forever, by the same form of  brutality, could you forgive the murderer?
