Fenton's Mystery Diners Visit Bob Evans

Today we visit Bob Evans on Owen Road.

Bob Evans always has a good outside appearance, the parking lot is clean but  maybe one too many newspaper boxes.  I say that because when I visit early in the morning, there are only two papers in the Detroit News box. If only two papers a day are sold, is it worth keeping those ugly boxes around?

As we entered the restaurant, Joy greeted us with a smile and sat us immediately.  We quickly learned that it was kids night and the wait staff was dressed accordingly, kind of goofy.

Adam was our server, he asked us what beverage we wanted and brought that to us almost immediately. We asked him about some of the food selections and he seemed very knowledgeable about the menu items. We ordered and the food arrived in a timely manner. Adam checked back with us a few times. The only problem we had is that our drinks were not refilled nor were our dishes cleared after our meal. It seemed like they were short staffed and that the kid’s night was keeping them busy. Luckily the kid’s party was in the back section of the restaurant.

Our food was the standard Bob Evans fare, nicely prepared, good temperature.  Tanya’s broccoli was on the raw side though.  Other than that the food was good.

“Hey Freddy, do you ever wonder why parents let their kids play with the jelly that is stacked neatly in the trays on the table?”, Tonya asked.

“Do they realize that it is food and people open them after their kids snotty hands are playing with them like they were dominoes?”

Stacking them, knocking them over, squishing them and then when the parents are tired of that, they ask the kids to please put them back and they don’t go back in the same spots, thus making more work for the staff.  So gross.  "It looks like we will need to sanitize the condiments before they are used", Tonya added.

Tonya had to visit the ladies room and she was a bit disappointed.  The floors were sticky, the counters were wet and towels lying around.   This again may be because of the large amount of kids visiting that night.  Nevertheless, attention was needed.

Upon cashing out we had to wait at the cashier for 4-5 minutes while the manager had to retrieve cash to give us change.

All in all, good food, moderate service from our local Bob Evans.  Maybe more help is needed on kid’s night?  We will certainly visit Bob's again.

Look to the Fenton Patch for all of our dining adventures.  We could be visiting a restaurant, bar, or dive in your neck of the woods next.

Stay tuned for the next adventure in and around fenton from Freddy Spaghetti and Tonya Lasagna.

I have to say that I have been really curious as to what Freddy and Tonya were going to come across as diners in Fenton. I personally have been repeatedly disappointed by different establishments in the level of service and don't eat out much because of it. I had similar problems at this Bob Evans, only on my last visit no one came near my table to even take a drink order for over 20 minutes. I tried to grab a manager who was walking around with coffee and water pitchers and was even ignored that way. Sorry to say, I love the food, and the free refills on the giant mochas, but I won't be back.

Yes Terri, we try to give very honest opinions and sometimes it may hurt a little but we are in hopes to give praise when deserved and and let those establishments or servers know when it is time to clean up their act a little (or a lot). We know that sometimes people have bad days, but as diners we do expect them to leave their problems at the door before they start their workday. Don't you agree? We are also looking for good eats and good atmosphere.

Does anyone have any suggestions for us to visit in town?
