I guess it could be described as a poll, as opposed to pole. I think I have my spring brain working, thinking about fishing...
Personally, I'm concerned when along side a car/person who is locked onto the wheel with both hands. I am a lot more comfortable with one hand, most of the time. Some situations call for a two-handed approach. The other day when the Fedex truck slid into my intersection, I definitely had both hands on the wheel.

both. that is both hands, and/or one hand depending on several things. my current daily driver has a dual clutch sequential gear box with a "shiftable" automatic. the shifting can be done with formula one style paddle shifters, as well as by manipulating the stick on the console between the seats.
this is only my 2nd "automatic" trans equipped car in some 28 years of driving - and generally I take a much more active role in driving to and fro than the average latte sipping, child disciplining, cellphone yapping (texting) make-up applying, newspaper reading knucklhead I see during my typical M-F commutes.
