Henry Ford board members voted against the multi-billion-dollar deal Tuesday afternoon.
The Beaumont and Henry Ford health systems merger has been called off after "different perspectives" emerged about the $6.4-billion deal. Henry Ford board of trustees' decision Tuesday followed six months of due diligence discussions involving hundreds of Beaumont and Henry Ford team members, according to Beaumont. “We have benefited greatly from our merger discussions and have great respect for our colleagues at Henry Ford,” said Gene Michalski, president and CEO, Beaumont Health System. “However, we found through our discussions that we are not aligned on how to achieve our vision for a model health system due to differences in our structures and business models.” In a letter to employees, Henry Ford CEO Nancy Schlichting wrote the …

Restaurant expected to open July 1 in former Blockbuster location.
Fenton will soon be home to a new Leo's Coney Island in the location of the former Blockbuster store at 15010 Silver Lake Parkway. The restaurant, which is expected to open July 1, will employ 30-35 people and feature a special Coca-Cola machine that lets customers mix and match 100 different flavors, according to an article at mlive.com. Leo's Coney Island has nearly 50 locations across Michigan and offers a full menu including Greek specialties, breakfast and a kids menu. I am glad they are not merging. Beaumont evolved from a great community hospital to a world-class health care facility. Henry Ford has great facilites and doctors also; but a merger of the two would prove too large and unweildy a governance structure in my opinion.   more ›
