ACO Home, Garden & Hardware plans to shut down under-performing stores in the region.
ACO Home, Garden & Hardware plans to close 14 local stores, including the one at 1370 North Leroy Street in Fenton. Michigan's largest independent hardware retailer announced Thursday that the plan to shut down the under-performing stores aims to "improve and strengthen the company’s financial performance." “To ensure our long term growth and sustainability, we must always strive to manage our costs and allocate resources to areas of our business that make a meaningful contribution to our financial performance," President and CEO Dick Snyder said in a news release. The company is also in the process of remodeling other stores to lure shoppers and accommodate expanded merchandise. A blow-out sale is scheduled to begin May 23 at the stores …

Henry Ford board members voted against the multi-billion-dollar deal Tuesday afternoon.
The Beaumont and Henry Ford health systems merger has been called off after "different perspectives" emerged about the $6.4-billion deal. Henry Ford board of trustees' decision Tuesday followed six months of due diligence discussions involving hundreds of Beaumont and Henry Ford team members, according to Beaumont. “We have benefited greatly from our merger discussions and have great respect for our colleagues at Henry Ford,” said Gene Michalski, president and CEO, Beaumont Health System. “However, we found through our discussions that we are not aligned on how to achieve our vision for a model health system due to differences in our structures and business models.” In a letter to employees, Henry Ford CEO Nancy Schlichting wrote the …

Big box stores only carry Hardware that moves fast where the smaller hardware's carry the odd things you sometimes need. When I go into a big box store and ask for a type of concrete anchor or a stand off hanger for pipe I get the deer in the headlights look because they don't carry it and you don't have time to order it online. The loss of ACO really upsets me.   more ›
