Linden 119 American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) held the first of what will be several veteran assistance projects. They made a recent trip to the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw. They took with them donations purchased with funds from Poppy Sales. Girl Scout leader Alida Rose Smith volunteered Fenton Troop 70944 to decorate 60 paper sacks to hold donated items. The scouts did a beautiful job covering the sacks with thanks to our veterans. Then ALA Veteran’s Affairs and Rehabilitation Chairman Betty Smith stuffed the sacks with personal hygiene products including toothpaste and brushes, activity books including Sudoku and crossword puzzles, socks, and other necessaries to assist with multiday and longer hospital stays. Also included were blankets, lap robes and other donations. Post member Jesus Lozano and Auxiliary members Betty Smith, Pat Lozano and Sherry Maxwell drove the donations to the Saginaw hospital. VA Medical Center volunteer coordinators Adam Hayward-Lupo and Christie Pelletier gave the ALA visitors a tour of the facility with an explanation of needs. The ALA has committed to additional donations in the near future.
