Christmas in Action Looking for Fenton Area Seniors' Homes in Need of Repairs

Volunteer group will be able to repair more homes for seniors this year because of a grant.

Thanks to a new grant, even more Fenton area seniors will be able to receive free home repairs from Tri-County Christmas in Action this year.

The volunteer group unites around a common goal of completing free home repairs for low-income-seniors and handicapped-elderly homeowners.

Charles Stewart Harding Mott II - Holly Foundation has awarded Tri-County Christmas in Action a grant, which will allow the group to do repairs on at least four more homes in the area. Also, the Genesee County group is currently working to get a grant for additional homes. The local chapter works in Fenton, Holly, Linden along with Tyrone, Rose and Argentine Townships.

The work day for repairs is scheduled for April 27.

The group is always looking for homes to repair. The qualifications for the Christmas in Action Workday homes are below. You can apply online.The form is also attached to this article.

  • Residents must be at least 60 years of age.
  • Residents must have lived in one for one year
  • Owner must occupy year round in a single family home
  • Income must have less than $30,000 per year
  • Insurance and Property Taxes are paid
  • Less than $10,000 in assets (other than house)

Anyone can help. Volunteers for work day can sign up on the Tri-County Christmas in Action website. Christmas in Action is also looking for new members, including board members and house and food sponsors for the work day.

"We are always welcoming new members to CIA and have board seats open for anyone looking to be a member and work with our great group all year on fundraising and Workday planning," said Marie Todorovsky, one the group's organizers.

The group does yearly fundraisers to support the work day, including a spaghetti dinner and a fall golf outing. They will also have a bowling outing at Holly Lanes starting at 5 p.m. Feb. 23. The cost is $15 or $50 for a four person team. The price includes three games of bowling, shoes and pizza.
