Fenton Community Orchestra, Fenton High School Jazz Orchestra to Host Spring Concert

Event to take place Tuesday at Fenton High School.

The Fenton Community Orchestra, in concert with the Fenton High School Jazz Orchestra, will hold a free Spring Concert on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Auditorium.

The was founded two years ago to be able to offer the community of Fenton a place for musicians and audiences of all ages to connect through music.

The 55 member orchestra, which practices each Thursday evening at the Fenton High School, contains members from age 10 to adults in their 70’s. The orchestra holds two main performances a year, in December and May.

Additionally, smaller chamber groups have performed at a Fenton 3rd Thursdays event, Chamber of Commerce Event, and plans to be involved in the Fenton Art Walk.

“The FCO has made amazing strides this year. We have a very special group of musicians who gather each week to play, learn and have fun together, “says Jennifer Fleck, President of FCO board and musician.

The Fenton High School Jazz Orchestra has 21 members. Director Andrew Perkins leads both the Community Orchestra as well as the Fenton High School Orchestra.

These two instrumental music programs complement each other very well,” says Perkins. “The school offers the facilities and equipment needed, and the Orchestra provides our school students with the opportunity to perform with string players, as well as adult and student musicians from a much broader range of ages and abilities. It’s a Win-Win situation.”

While admission to the concert is free, donations are appreciated, as the money from this concert will help support the Fenton High School Jazz Orchestra’s trip to France in late June.  The accomplished musicians have been invited to France to play in a music festival at the end of June of this year. Band members and chaperones plan to stay with host families while performing in France.

The Fenton High School Jazz Orchestra will hold an additional concert on Tuesday, June 26th at 7:30 at the gazebo (rain location United Methodist Church), just two days before departing for France.
