Fenton Community Orchestra Picks Up Tempo in Year Two

Group now offering beginning string classes, is a non-profit organization.

In only its second year, the Fenton Community Orchestra is starting the fall season with a bang. The organization, now an official non-profit, is pleased to announce a new music director, a new community education strings class and introduces “Primary Strings,” a beginning strings orchestra.

“We are thrilled to announce that Mr. Andrew Perkins has agreed to accept the position of Music Director,” said Jennifer Fleck, Co-founder and President of the Board of Directors of the Fenton Community Orchestra. “He brings a wealth of experience in working with the Fenton School ensembles as well as arranging and composing music.”

Perkins won’t be the only new asset to the grassroots orchestra. In partnership with Southern Lakes Parks and Recreation and A Joyful Noise Music Studio, the Fenton Community Orchestra will offer beginner strings classes.

“As a part of the class fee, students will be able to participate in the Primary Strings orchestra,” said Fleck. “This will help to give new string students a more complete experience.  They will get more instruction than a standard private class and learn how to play in an ensemble.”

Just like the organization’s first year, the full Fenton Community Orchestra welcomes new participants, hoping to maintain a regular group of 30-40 at each of the weekly rehearsals, which begin September 15 from 6-8pm at the Fenton High School Band Room. Primary Strings practices will take place on Thursdays as well beginning September 22.

“This year we want more of the Fenton community to become even more aware of one of Fenton’s newest cultural additions, if not become involved in some way,” Fleck said. “They may join the orchestra, attend a concert or support us with time or donations.”
