As the sun rises on the eastern shores of Michigan waves roll in and waves roll out. Seagulls begin their cries floating in and out of view thru the screen in the top of the tent. There is a random loon call and some Canada Geese out on the lake as well. It is a beautiful morning in Harrisville State Park and I am in my tent 30 yards from the crystalline shores of Lake Huron.
We are camping in Harrisville which is only 2.5 hours from Fenton with much of the drive being on the shoreline with fantastic views. Stops are usually made on the way up in nearby Tawas or Oscoda for shopping or tourism. We are here for the weekend to celebrate and watch my mother in law and her fiancé Tim share their vows in a beach wedding........ Now back to the tent!
As I lay there all warm in my sleeping bag, I ponder the thought of what to do while on vacation and I suddenly realize that sleeping in is top on my list. I roll over and pull the bag up only to smell bacon cooking in a cast iron skillet. Few things in this world will get me out of bed, bacon is one of them.

Michigan’s State Park campgrounds are amazing places. They are affordable, plentiful and beautiful. I prefer the parks located on the Great Lakes, however the inland parks are just as enjoyable. If tent camping is not your style most of the parks have cabin rentals available as well. The campgrounds list and rates can be found on the Michigan DNR website.
Each camp ground is located in or very close to state lands that are open to hunting, hiking, fishing and many other outdoor activities. Most have beaches and playgrounds for family fun as well. Each campground has a full time host living there who plans special activities. Be it crafts, educational seminars about wildlife or just good ole' campfire stories.
