When it comes to choosing a weapon to head into the woods with there is an abundance of options. So how do you decide what to bring? For most this decision is based on what season is currently open. In the state of Michigan the laws for archery season were recently changed allowing the use of crossbows by anyone regardless of their handicap. Like many hunters, I was skeptical of this change. I always felt that crossbows were for those that could no longer pull back their compound or recurve/long bow. My dad had picked one up last season and kept trying to get me to use it. I helped him sight it in however I was still set on using my compound as I liked the challenge of having to pull back in the heat of the moment.

This whole mindset changed this year as I was faced with having to hunt a shallow piece of property that put me almost directly on top of my bait pile and main deer crossing route
