Week in Review: Jury Finds Brandon Hayes Guilty, Lucky Tattoo and Chili Cook-off

Here is a look at what happened at Fenton Patch this week.

The Fenton area had a busy week, and Patch readers kept up with it online. We took a look at the jury's decision that Brandon Hayes is guilty in the beating death of his former girlfriend's 4-year-old son, Dominick Calhoun, who lived in Argentine. On much lighter notes, a new tattoo business has opened in Fenton and the winning recipe in Fenton's Third Thursday Chili Cook-off had chocolate in it.

Sunday, Jan. 15

We told the story of how neighbors — including a brave 6-year-old — and the saved the life of a man who fell into the water rescuing his dog.

Monday, Jan. 16

Fenton Patch let you know the hockey tournament will be delayed until Feb. 17-19, due to the ice being too thin on Lake Fenton near the Fenton Moose Lodge, where the tournament will be played.

Tuesday, Jan. 17

In the Fenton Patch reported how city police are investigating the theft of $4,500 in jewelry taken from a home on Dauner Haus Street.

We also shared the recent Dean's List, which reports several local students earned a 3.5 grade point average — or better.

Wednesday, Jan. 18

Fenton Patch shared the story of on North LeRoy Street, a new business in town.

Thursday, Jan. 19

Fenton Patch reported on the in which Brandon Hayes has been found guilty on 10 counts. He faces up to life in prison for the beating death of 4-year-old Dominick, a son of his former girlfriend, Corrine Baker.

We also reported the Fenton opened the season with a 95-72 victory over Owosso Wednesday night.

And Fenton Patch had the story on a public meeting about Fenton's $4.5 million project, planned for 2013.

Friday, Jan. 20

In the Fenton Patch let you know two Wal-Mart employees are suspected of embezzlement and stealing $40 from a customer's purse left unattended in a cart.

We also updated you on the welcome signs, which will be changed so the vinyl lettering on the back of them is reflective for easier reading.

And we reported on Fenton's which raised $235.04 for Adopt-A-Pet.
