Fenton's Crust to Celebrate First Anniversary

The Fenton bakery opened Feb. 1, 2012.

Crust, a full-service retail and wholesale baking company located in downtown Fenton is celebrating its first anniversary with an event on Feb. 12.

“We’re very grateful for the enthusiastic welcome we’ve received from Fenton and the surrounding communities and want to invite everyone to help us celebrate our one-year anniversary. Please  join us for a slice of cake and outdoor tour of the entire bakery,” said Executive Baker Mike Green.

The anniversary event will be held on Saturday, February 2nd from noon to 3 p.m. There will be cake, other savory baked goods, tours and drawings to win signature items.

After the success of The Laundry restaurant in Fenton for 12 years, owners were ready to expand with a full-service bakery that would supply the restaurant as well. Research trips were taken to Montreal, Toronto and New York City to find the best products possible. Green also became certified as an artisan bread baker at the French Culinary Institute in New York.

Working with local business people in Fenton, the property at 104 W. Caroline St. was secured for the future bakery location. Extensive renovations occurred, including installing artisan-styled ovens from Verona, Italy, and large glass windows in the front of the building to showcase the bakers. .

Crust is dedicated to excellence in artisan principles, with all-natural ingredients that are locally sourced and organic whenever possible as products are handcrafted in small batches by traditional baking methods on their premises seven days a week.

Crust offers an extensive range of products including delicious artisan breads, Viennoiserie pastries, cookies, donuts, muffins, scones, and  two-pound fruit pies made famous by co-owner Mark Hamel at The Laundry.
