Fenton's The UPS Store Offers More Than Just Shipping

Today we talk to Les Beare, the owner of The UPS Store in Fenton.

The business opened in Fenton in 1997, but recently under went renovations. The UPS Store's printing and finishing equipment has been moved to the front of the store in the central location.

When were you founded?  I started my Mail Boxes Etc Franchise in Novi in February 1988, I then opened a Milford location in 1995.  The Fenton location opened in 1997. 

How did your business come to be?  I was a construction worker and I was looking for a business with good hours and I was also looking to not have to work in the outdoor elements. I went to a franchise show in Detroit where I was introduced to Mail Boxes Etc. UPS bought the franchise rights to in 2004 and renamed us The UPS Store.  We are still an independently owned business serving the Fenton, Linden, Holly and surrounding areas.

Why did you choose the Fenton area? I saw the Silver Parkway project and loved the look of it and the retail mix. We are a good fit.

What do you offer customers? People have a couple misconceptions. First they think all we do is ship packages. Secondly they think we are UPS. We do much more than ship packages.  We are a printer.  We print everything from business cards to wedding invitations. We do not print your normal wedding invitations, we custom make them to your specifications. Our graphic designer works side by side with you to create just the look you are looking for. We also have a very large poster and banner printer with colors that are generated from 12 different inks, not the usual 4 in a household printer. The color is very vivid.  

Our customers love our printing capabilities. Many people do not realize The UPS Store is their local printer also.  With our corporate partners, there isn't any printing we cannot do. We can even fish the project with binding and laminating and then ship the project if needed.  We make rubber stamps for endorsing checks, addresses, signatures and more.  We make them in house and they are ready within a day.   

What do you want your business to be best known for? The best customer service in our industry.  here are many great places in Fenton to get great customer service but we love our customers and we bend over backwards to please them.  Our graphic designer Becky has a huge customer base that is growing by word of mouth.  She does the greatest work especially when people are in a pinch to get it done fast.  There is also our superior packaging  by our certified packaging experts.  We have the "Pack and Ship Guarantee." If we pack it and it gets lost or damaged, we will reimburse you the declared value amount plus your packaging and shipping costs.

What's your most popular product or service?  I would have to say it is our copy/print services second to UPS shipping.
