Man Working to Open Former Tee Bone'z in Fenton Township

Fenton Township board scheduled to make decision on liquor license transfer on June 4.

Work is continuing on the former building in efforts to open a new restaurant and bar in Fenton Township.

Project consultant Leroy Minto said crews have been working on painting and re-building the kitchen. He said plans are to open a restaurants/bar, which does not yet have a name, that will include a creative small plates menu with fresh seafood, creative salads and beach bar grub. He said the restaurant would be family-friendly, especially for lunch.

Minto said the business plans to have live music outside. He said the deck will be insulated by a wall of volcanic rock fiber to prevent the sound from carrying across the lake. In January of 2010, Fenton Township revoked a permit that allowed live music at the location because of complaints the music continued after the 11 p.m. curfew allowed by the permit.

Minto said crews have been working on the building for about a month. He said crews rebuilt the pizza room with a new roof and new lumber.

“It’s been a huge amount of work,” he said. “The kitchen was a huge mess when we got here.”

Owner Scott Spooner is attempting to transfer a liquor license from a Burton nightclub to the location. The board is scheduled to make a decision on the transfer at its June 4 meeting.

The board has concerns, however, as Spooner has had trouble with the law. He faced an Operating While Intoxicated charge and had a concealed weapon during the incident in December 2011, reported.

“Why would I want to approve a liquor license to someone who, at least on that day, at that time, at that instance, had a problem?” Township Clerk Robert Krug said in the article.

Minto said they would know more about a possible opening date after the license decision.

“It’s going to be a fun place,” Minto said.

What do you think about a new restaurant/bar possibly opening at the former Tee Bone'z? What kind of place would you like to see?

There needs to be something here. That was one of the big draws about being on Ponemah/Tupper/Squaw lakes... you can dock your boat at the place and walk in. You can't get that amenity anywhere else in town. I would hope for a little better food than Tee Bone'z, though, and some craft beer selections. Having live music and a beer with a dish of decent food is a nice addition to a night out on Lake Ponemah. I also hope the new spot doesn't end its name with "z."

I totally agree with John. Nothing else came close to the deck at Tee Bonez on a warm sunny day. Improve the food and the beer selection and the place will be a hit again.

It would be great to have a restaurant on the lake again. My family and friends loved going there to celebrate a birthday or special occasion. We really miss it, but the kitchen has always been too small for the volume of customers, making wait time long, and I'm guessing, difficult conditions for the cooking staff to operate properly. Maybe a less ambitious menu, and more pre-packaged items would help. We will certainly help by being customers.

Great if they can do it right , the area always needs a good Seafood restaurant and having one on a lake sets a good atmosphere for its success. Always fun to drive up in your boat to have a nice meal and listen to good music. Hopefully people will use common sense going over the railroad tracks with the Trains going by after having consumed Alcohol. theres been alot of deaths at those tracks.

I am so excited to see the place open up again. I love going there for lunch and or dinner. Being able to sit on the deck and have dinner, watch the boats and listen to music there was awesome.
