Michigan Brewing Company Headquarters Listed For Sale

The 76,000 square foot Webberville facility is listed for $1.65 million. Officials say sale won't cancel Fenton plans.

The Michigan Brewing Company headquarters in Webberville is listed for sale, but officials have said it won't cancel the proposed Fenton brewery.

The property, located at 1093 Highway Drive, near I-96 and M-52, is listed for sale on the CBRE, Inc. website for $1.65 million. The 76,000 square foot warehouse and light manufacturing facility houses a brewery, restaurant and homebrew store.

Michigan Brewing Company President Bobby Mason said plans are to sell the building and then lease it back from the landlord as part of restructuring the business.

"A lot of businesses do it and it's all for the better," Mason said.

He also added that the changes would not affect the plans for the Fenton location.

"The process has taken longer than anticipated, but we are itching to pull the trigger," Mason said.

Mason opened the Webberville-based business in 1995 with a 30-barrel brewing system, which has now expanded.

The company moved to the current facility in 2006 after located in the same area. Michigan Brewing Company struck a deal with Kid Rock and began to produce his American Badass Redneck Lager in July 2009. In the beginning of 2010, Michigan Brewing Co. added contracts with O&W Inc. of Ypsilanti and Eastown Distributors of Highland Park, which increased the company's points of sale across the state from 300 to nearly 2,300. The company also has a pub in downtown Lansing.

Michigan Brewing Company officials have said they in Fenton at the old fire hall, 201 South Leroy Street. At Tuesday's Fenton Downtown Development Authority meeting, Michigan Brewing Company official Bill Tadrick said they have . Tadrick said construction is slated to begin in May and the business is expected to be open in August.

"We've done everything we can do. There is no hold up on our end. We are ready to go," Tadrick said Tuesday. "They assured us we'd have the plans by the end of the month."

Fenton DDA Director Michael Burns said Friday the sale will not cause Michigan Brewing Company officials to cancel the Fenton project.

Fenton DDA Chairman Craig Schmidt said all parties involved met last week and discussed what everyone had to do to get the construction process moving and everyone was on the same page.

Mayor Sue Osborn asked if Michigan Brewing Company officials had funding secured and Tadrick said they had the majority of the $1.5 to $2 million ready to go for the project.
