Restaurants Ready to Give Fenton a Taste

Taste in Fenton will take place from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday with several other activities in downtown Fenton.

Adam Rose doesn't want customers unfamiliar with spicy foods to be intimidated by the Thai food at in Fenton.

That's why he says the is a great opportunity for people to give it a try.

"We can take any dish down to no spice and make it mild, medium or hot," said Bangkok Peppers owner Adam Rose. "Our staff is all team players and they can excite every dish."

The eatery will offer up simple dishes Kow Pad, a vegetarian fried rice, and Pad Thai, thin rice noodles stir fried with egg, bean sprouts and green onion, topped with fresh ground peanuts at the Taste in Fenton.

"We meet a lot of new customers and let them know who were are and that we are family-owned and operated," Rose said. "We tell people we do more stir frying than deep frying."

Taste in Fenton is a community event where local restaurants bring their food so the community can sample a taste. There is also live music, kids entertainment and more from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday outside the .

There are 18 restaurants signed up to participate. Sample tickets will be 10 tickets for $15 on the day of the event or 10 tickets for $12 pre-purchased. If you attend the Tune-up Party Thursday in Fenton you can purchase a special deal with 10 tickets for $10. Restaurants samples will be one or two tickets.

Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce President Shelly Day said early tickets sales have been slow, but said a lot of people purchase tickets the day of the event as they wait to see what the weather will be like. The Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce has rented out the if people would like to eat inside with air conditioning or move the entire event inside if needed.

"We are expecting it to be bigger," Day said. "We didn't change too many things because it worked really well last year."

will host a pie-eating contest for children and adults. A total of 12 contestants will be selected in a drawing before the contest, which begins at 11:45 a.m. for children and 4:45 p.m. for adults. Children can win a $100 and the winning adult can win $500.

"It was a huge hit last year," Day said. "It's really neat and attracted big crowds last year."

The will also host "Run Through Flames" 5K/10K Run/Walk for the Fenton Firefighter charities at 10 a.m. Fenton Kiwanis Club's will host Art at the Center in conjunction with Taste in Fenton, featuring 40 artists' work at the . There will also be a children's area with a bounce house, putt-putt golf and games that children can enter for $1. There were will a sports-themed bar stool auction, benefiting the Chamber's Career Connections program from area high school students.
