Being raised on a farm and growing up with hunters, DNR and police officers, I learned to respect guns and use them at a young age. Eddie the eagle continued to be used in even the scout classes I was the leader of. Safety first is the motto. People that say guns kill usually know nothing of guns or gun safety. The fact is people pull the trigger and trying to outlaw guns sure will not stop the bad people from getting them but limit the good people from added protection.

My family has taken CPL classes since the economy fell and theft, murder, robbery  and copper plumbing stripping went on the rise. I recommend it to everyone that wishes to conceal carry. CPL stands for concealed pistol license. There is not a law  stating you cannot open carry a gun in Michigan, but to conceal you must be licensed. If you conceal carry without a license it is automatic jail time.

The class is very informative and do not think you can skate through it without listening. The classes take several required hours and include range time to learn the basics of handgun control. I learned many informative things including home safety steps I had never even thought or considered to protect my family. You have an exam after the classroom training and once you pass you get your certification that you have completed the required courses. This certification is good for one year.

Once the certification is obtained, you go to your county courthouse to file for your license. Take a current passport photo with you, fill out the forms and pay the fee. Continue to the county sheriff department to be fingerprinted . In 6 to 8 weeks you will receive your license once your background check has cleared.

Fees for the CPL class varies from $100 to $200.There is a class beginning Dec. 10 in Otisville at the gun barn for $100 per person.The cost to file for your license is averaging from $150 to $200 For correct pricing call your county.

There are some people that can not obtain a cpl license such as drug offenders, those with violent records, or mental issues. A More in-depth list of whom can and cannot file for a CPL can be obtained.
