Five Things to Know Today—Oct. 14

1. Today's National Weather Service forecast for the Fenton area calls for a high of 56 degrees with a 60 percent chance of rain showers. Tonight's forecast is a low of 42 degrees with isolated showers.

2. The lowest gas price late Thursday afternoon in the Fenton area was $3.34 per gallon at the Owen Road BP Food Shop, 3238 Owen Rd. 

3. President Barack Obama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will tour the General Motors assembly plant in Orion together Friday, according to a press release from the White House. The reports that Obama and Lee will briefly tour a few of the operations and then make remarks on the recent trade agreement between the United States and South Korea. The tour is not open to the public. The plant tour comes just days after Congress approved the free trade agreement with South Korea.

4. The Fenton Winery and Brewery, 1545 N. LeRoy St., Fenton, is hosting today at 7:30 p.m. At the free event, Horn will sing a mix of original adult contemporary songs peppered with a few oldies and jazz. For more information about Horn, check out her website at www.lauriehorn.com.

5. A family fundraiser to support a cancer patient is from 4:30-7 p.m. today, at 5530 Runyan Lake Rd., Fenton. For $10 per person or $30 per family, participants get dinner with spaghetti, salad and breadsticks. Activities include a bake sale, 50/50 raffle, door prizes, bounce house, children's games and a silent auction (the items are awarded at 7 p.m. and you don't have to be present to win). Proceeds will help patient Erin Mead, a teacher at Hartland's Garden Gate Montessori (which is sponsoring the fundraiser). Mead, a single mom of two children, has synovial cell sarcoma, a rare cancer.
