Fundraiser Being Held for Man Who Died in Fiery Motorcycle Accident

Sears will host a fundraiser for motorcycle safety Friday.

Joseph Lueckeman went on a motorcycle ride with friends July 3, 2010.

The Burton resident, 32, had no idea it would be his last.

A gas tanker truck collided with Lueckman's motorcycle near Interstate 475 and Stewart Avenue in Flint and he was killed in the crash, The Flint Journal reported in July 2010.

Lueckeman's sister, Heather Lueckeman, of Fenton, told Fenton Patch her brother was close to his family and friends and was always there if someone needed him. He was good at everything he set out to do; he played golf, tennis and the guitar, she said. He also loved his dogs and motorcycles.

“My brother was an awesome person," she said. "He was always doing something and was not known for being still.

“He was probably known best for making people laugh," she said. "He was so funny, there was no way a person could be around him and not find themselves cracking up at some point.”

Lueckeman has teamed up with the Nationwide Kathleen Davis Agency and Sears both in Fenton, to hold a fundraiser from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday at Sears, 14283 Fenton Road in his honor.

Visitors will be able to view an official car from the NASCAR Nationwide Series and take a turn in a  Nascar simulator. There will also be face painting, a lemonade stand, giveaways and samples from .

Kathleen Davis from Nationwide, a motor vehicle insurance provider, thinks it is very important for awareness to be raised in the community.

“There are many motorcycles out this time of year,” Davis said. “Awareness is also needed in light of the string of that have taken place in the area over the last month.”

Lueckeman stated, “If I had to say one thing that carries me through the days without him, my brother really lived life every day, and I don’t think he ever took living for granted.”

Lueckeman’s goal is to reach out to the community and have people them look twice and save a life when they are in the driver’s seat. She would like to raise $500 Friday and give all donations to a Look Twice Save a Life foundation.
