Meet Lucy Blanchard: Fenton Native and Civil War Nurse

Group will host presentation at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Fenton Museum.

The Fenton Historical Society will allow people to take a step back in time Wednesday night to learn about one of Fenton’s finest.

There will be a presentation on Lucy Blanchard, a Fenton native, who was a Civil War nurse.

“She was a resident here and passed away here,” said Doug Tebo, chairman of the Oakwood Cemetery Board.

Len and Sharon Thomas, of Swartz Creek, will put on the presentation. The couple traced a Daughters of Union Veterans group that was formed in Fenton in honor of Blanchard. They also tracked Blanchard's entire career and found her body was in an unmarked grave in New York. Both Len and Sharon were awarded the National Daughters of the Revolution “Excellence in Community Service Award” this year for their research.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the , 310 South LeRoy Street. Light refreshments will be served.
