Record Breaking Rainfall Continues to Cause Problems

Spring has been wettest of all time in Flint area NBC 25 reports.

The wet spring continues and there has been plenty of consequences.

ConnectMidMichigan.com reports as of May 19, the Flint area has set a record for most spring rainfall. The NBC 25 article stated Flint has received 14.53 inches of rainfall during the 2011 spring season, breaking the old record of 13.80 set in 1945.

Kevin Usealman, meteorologist and reporter for NBC 25, said March was the wettest Flint has ever seen along with the fifth wettest April.

The weather has wreaked havoc on local sports. Even though it wasn’t raining Thursday, baseball team (11-6) had to cancel its games due to wet fields, said Lake Fenton coach Hewitt Judson.

“Go figure,” he said.

The Blue Devils were scheduled to take on rival Goodrich (20-1), but the game was postponed and a makeup date has not been finalized.

The wet weather has caused problems elsewhere as well.

ABC 12 News reports the Flint River overflowed its banks, closing some roads. The article also said many place in downtown Flint are underwater, including the stage at Flint's Riverview Park amphitheater.

ABC 12 News' Kevin Goff reports the wet weather is the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes, which means the annoying creatures could bug you even more this summer.
