Strong Winds Cause Power Outages in Fenton

Consumers has no estimate when electricity will be restored.

About 2,300 Consumers customers are without power tonight because of the strong winds.

Consumers spokesman Jeff Holyfield said there are problems throughout the lower penninsula and about 22,000 of their customers have no electricity.

Holyfield did not have a time when power would be restored.

"It's really to early to tell, the wind is still blowing really.  When the wind stops and tree limbs stop falling, we'll have a better idea. It's still in the early phases," he said.

He added that crews have been called and are working on downed lines, but said it might be a case where some homes will have power restored and the wind may knock others out.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory, in effect from 2-11 p.m. Wednesday. According to the NWS, peak winds times are between 5-8 p.m., with winds as fast as 50 miles per hour.

The NWS advises residents of affected areas to tie down loose objects and use caution while driving.

Affected counties include Midland, Bay, Huron, Saginaw, Tuscola, Sanilac, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Lenawee, Monroe and Wayne.
