Weather Doesn't Dampen Halloween Spirit in Fenton

Temperatures hovered in the 30s and a light rain fell, but some brave children didn't let that stop them from trick or treating Wednesday.

Many Fenton area businesses participated in the Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce's an Event So Good It's Scary, handing out candy to those who made their way through the elements.

"I'm just trying to stay warm," said Lauren Hancock, 7, who was dressed up as a cat. "My tail is fine, though."

Many children tried to warm up by playing a little soccer outside the Fenton Community & Cultural Center where LaForza Soccer had a candy table and soccer nets set up.

"If it wasn't for this, we might have not been able to go trick or treating," said Danielle Hodson, who walked downtown Fenton along three little ones bundle up.

Kim Wolfgang said her neighbors were rallying together in a neighborhood garage with a warm adult beverage in a kettle while the children trick our treated close by.

"The weather is bringing us together," she said.

The Fenton United Methodist Church hosted a Heroes Unmasked event that included candy, games, bounce house and even a tomb room where children can learn about the gospel.

"We normally get 60 to 80 kids," organizer Noreen Wood said. "We might get more with the bad weather."

Evan Willingham planned to take the children trick or treating the old fashioned way.

"We will dress warm and prepare for the rain," he said.
