State of Emergency

FLINT, MI -- Andrew Morton and Kendrick Jones want to take the stories the people of Flint might already know and bring them to life.

The two recently founded The Shop Floor Theatre Company with the intent of bringing Flint's real-life issues to the stage using verbatim theater -- a technique that uses words taken from interviews to create dialogue and stories.

The script of their first show -- "State of Emergency" -- is nearing completion. The show is based on Michigan's controversial emergency manager law which was used to put Flint under state financial control.
