Freddie & Tonya Visit the Fenton Coney/Grill

Freddy Spaghetti and Tonya Lasagna (mystery diners who are real Fenton residents) review area restaurants.

The Fenton Coney/Grill at 1484 N. Leroy St. has only been in the neighborhood for only a few years, yet it seems as they have been around for a long time because of the following of loyal customers. We always seem to see a friend or two every time we visit. It doesn’t matter what night you go to eat there, it is full of hungry diners yet not to the point where you have to wait to be seated.

We always get seated and waited on promptly. There was a time in the past where the wait staff was a bit cranky and irritable, that since has been dealt with and the staff they have now are real pleasant and attentive to your needs. I can’t give accolades to the wait staff we had tonight because they didn’t have a name badge on nor did they tell us their name. Maybe next time.

This visit I had a tuna pita and Tonya had a breakfast dish. I don’t have much to say about her eggs and toast. I mean, eggs are eggs, right? On the other hand my pita sandwich was excellent. The tuna was not over mayo’d. It had lettuce and tomato on it and the quantity?! I had to take some of the tuna off because it was stuffed so full. The portion was incredible. Another sandwich favorite of ours is the chicken gyro. A large freshly marinated chicken breast is grilled to perfection and served in one of the delicious pita breads. Yummy goodness.

If you ever go to the Fenton Coney/Grill for dinner, you have to check out the specials including the stuffed green peppers, lasagna, and the beef stroganoff, which is tremendous! The portions are huge and most of the time we get the leftovers boxed for lunch the next day.

On a Sunday morning you may have to wait for a table because they do have an excellent breakfast crowd, and that is because they have an excellent breakfast menu. Once again the portions are large, such as the omelets, pancakes and hash browns.

The Fenton Coney on North Leroy gets a thumbs up from us. We are happy to see this establishment succeed. They have added a very large outdoor patio and have also recently upgraded the facade. Nice job!

Note to the vegetarians and gluten free diners. We are still looking for restaurants to suit your dietary needs but have not found anything out of the ordinary veggie fare. We’ll let you know if we do.

Until next time, Freddie and Tonya wish you happy dining in Fenton and the surrounding area. Dine local!
