National Flip Flop Day started back in 2007 as a celebration encouraging customers to kick off summer, and their shoes, by wearing a pair of flip flops. As a simple thank you to loyal customers, the first 500 people wearing flip flops at each café were given a free 24 oz. Jetty Punch smoothie. Following the holiday’s inaugural year, Tropical Smoothie Café realized Nation Flip Flop Day was also the perfect opportunity to spread some sunshine to those in need. In 2008, the franchise company proudly announced a national charity partnership with the remarkable retreat known as Camp Sunshine. Camp Sunshine, a haven in Casco, Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, is a nonprofit that hosts families year-round to alleviate the stress and strain for the sick child and their family members.
