GENESEE COUNTY, Michigan – Crayons. Check. Paper. Check. Glue sticks. Check.

Back to school supplies aren’t the only things in high demand this time of year. Parents looking for creative ways to keep their preschoolers busy before cold weather sets in will enjoy Little Kritters, a fun and educational fitness program for 2-4-year-olds.

Registration is under way for fall sessions at two Genesee County locations. Classes will run from 9-10 a.m. Saturdays, September 8, 22, 29 and October 6, 13, 20, at Deer Run Soccer Park, 16021 Linden Road, Linden. A Grand Blanc program is set for noon-1 p.m. the same Saturdays at Bicentennial
Park, 1505 E. Grand Blanc Road.

The sessions are hosted by AYSO 417 and AYSO 169 and operated by Little Kritters Soccer professional coaches. Children will enjoy 20 minutes of skills, 20 minutes of games and 20 minutes of scrimmage.

“By relating the game of soccer to different animals, or ‘kritters,’ this unique program helps children remember different skills they learn with a soccer ball, so they can build upon their soccer knowledge each week,” said Staci Miracle, district manager for the Little Kritters program. “The games and activities are played at each child’s pace, no matter what their skill level, with positive feedback from their coach, no matter what the talent level of the child.”

The cost is $96 for six weeks for new Kritters, who will receive an outdoor Puma soccer ball. Returning Kritters can play for $84 with no soccer ball. When they register online, parents must register for six sessions. They also can purchase T-shirts and sack packs.

Sessions fill up fast and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Little Kritters is a division of ., headquartered in Fenton. MSA has been teaching age-appropriate curriculum for children since 1973, throughout the United States. Company President Tony Shard said the benefits of playing soccer go beyond building self-esteem and
fine motor skills.

“By introducing soccer to children at a young age, you are helping to fight the growing trend of childhood obesity,” Shard said. “Since soccer is a gender-neutral sport that children can continue to play throughout their adult life, introducing it at a young age gives children a good foundation for a healthy activity that they can continue through a lifetime.”
