Fenton Legend Russ Haddon Dies

Haddon served as Lake Fenton's first superintendent, helped found the Fenton Village Players and touched many lives.

On Saturday Russ Haddon will receive a Lifetime Achievement award from The Lake Fenton Community Schools Foundation.

However, unfortunately, that lifetime came to end Tuesday as the Fenton legend passed away at age 97.

Haddon served as Lake Fenton's first superintendent, he was a founding father of the and ran the for 50 years.

"He was a pillar of society," said friend Nancy Draves. "This is a great loss for the community."

Draves said the visions of a theater for the Fenton Village Players had all but faded when Haddon made a $250,000 donation for the new building.

"He really wanted that building," Draves said. "He was very interested in cultural things. He was a dear, dear man."

Haddon touched many lives in Fenton after graduating from , attending the University of Michigan and serving in the Navy during World War II.

"He had a glimmer in his eyes that never dimmed and a sense of mischief about him," said longtime Fenton Village Players member Sam Di Vita. "He was funny and sweet and a huge flirt."

"Always a gentleman and a generous soul. We will miss you. Thank you for your love of community theater," Fenton resident Bev Tippet posted on Facebook.

Haddon will be honored by the The Lake Fenton Community Schools Foundation 6 p.m. Saturday at Spring Meadows. Contact Jerry Ragsdale to RSVP at 810- 694-0003 ($50 per person).

A memorial celebrating Russell's life will be held at a later date to be announced, according to the Dryer Funeral Home in Holly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Nature Conservancy or the Fenton Village Players.
