A Tale Of Two Frogs

A grown up fairy tale. Keep going even if you can't see where your efforts will lead.

I don't know where this story popped up from as it's been mine for as long as I can remember. I was reminded of it when I lifted up the cover of our hot tub and found two frogs steambathing on the edge last night. When I skittered off to find a suitable frog removal device...they were gone. Perhaps this came next.

It was another day, very much like any other. The sky was blue, the grass green and two frogs were doing what they did every day...playing leapfrog. Yes each day they got up early and lined up one in front and one in back, each trying to get in front. They jumped and jumped and jumped springing further and higher each time. So, engrossed in the game they did not notice where they were as first one and then the other plopped right into a vat of fresh cream in the local dairy.

One frog was very educated. He knew everything so, after taking a few turns around the vat, considering the smooth metal sides, depth and open circle above., he pronounced to his companion that it was completely hopeless. He stopped swimming and sunk.

The second frog wasn't known for his brilliance, but, he just kept swimming around and swimming around. Night fell in the dairy and he couldn't see where he was going, but, he kept swimming.

The hours passed and he was getting sooo tired, but he just kept going. It was really getting harder and harder but he just kept going.

At this point I could pause for effect, or maybe get a cup of tea, because there just seems to be no end of the story, after all, the smart frog said.....but wait.....can it be....

As the morning light shone brightly, our little friend the frog sat happily croaking on top of a vat of freshly churned butter.

I think I can say without reservation that even if you aren't a frog, and your whole world seems as slippery and narrow as a vat of cream....life holds a few lovely surprises.

Gratefully,

Mary
