Juicy

Unexpected pleasure of a mystery.

Ohhhhhh, have I got a tale to tell you! Did you feel it? Right there, in very few words, a little vibration started to move the air. This is a story of passion, delight, joy and well, downright flavorful. It rocks the socks off me and I am lucky to be the one to share it

This little sweet smell has been scenting everything...I considered alllll the possibilities and looked for the source in an unending way. At first, I tried to follow it from where I was, to whatever it is. I would go two steps right and lose it, only to catch it again in an entirely different place.

I tried to ignore the beckoning of that wispy crooked finger, but while just sitting quietly reading a book it, would just tantalize and set me to wondering. Checking everywhere, nose to everything sniff-able.

It was simply driving me crazy. Catching it on my way upstairs or down and, I started to resent it....just a little. What was this smell that wouldn't give any details? Maybe, gasp, a ghost of a presence sharing the room?

I started questioning dead relatives, and it seemed at times, to become stronger at those moments. Daily cooking, even overpowering things, masked it for a few hours but every morning, I opened the french doors...and there it would be. Sometimes, it caught me mid dream and woke me up...What the heck is that?

It didn't leave, and while it was becoming downright normal to me and to my family, friends stopping by, would get that momentary far away look and say, "What smells so divine ?" In truth, it was very lovely if unidentifiable.

Last night the mystery was solved as I removed the leaf from our dining room table. I looked down at the floor and winced...ewwwww.....gooey something with...what the heck....shriveled up something.....

Aha! Leave it to a bunch of kids to unwittingly, yet purposefully create a situation. Apparently, while the adults visited after dinner Tiny Tim, Silly Sam and Babby [we are really big on pet names in our family] spied a bowl of ....

Oranges.

Using the dining room table for a fort, the children proceeded to indulge in eating nearly a dozen. Where they put the peels really says something about the covert operation. They tucked them in the cubbyhole that holds the extra table leaf when it is not in use. While days and weeks passed the pulp dripped, dried and when the furnace came on, venting under the table, the smell filled the air.

Ha....I just might put a few there myself! Of course the story wouldn't be quite the same if I sit under the dining room table , to peel, drip and eat, but I think it would be a good bit of fun.

Gratefully shared with a whispy crooked finger, and a smile,

Mary
