A Public Break-up Letter

It's not me, it's you.

It’s not me, it’s YOU. I’m embarrassed that it took me so long to find this out, but I think I’ve been duped and lied to for so long I just really believed everyone who told me you were good for me. Some of my friends think I'm crazy and that it's not healthy to be without you--but they're wrong. Way wrong.

I finally know that you’ve made me miserable and sick, and I’m through with you. I only wish I would have figured this out years ago.

It’s been almost two months now since I let you go. I feel better. I’m much happier. I sleep better—no more wake-ups or heartburn. I have more energy and don’t constantly feel like I need to eat. My skin cleared up and my knees don’t hurt anymore. It’s hard to believe I suffered through so many physical ailments and you were the cause all along. I just didn’t know.

The kids are happier, too. They missed you at first, but once they realized that they felt better once you were gone, they hardly think about you anymore. It's still hard for them sometimes--especially when they're around their friends. But they know you aren't good for them either. They concentrate better and are more focused than they have ever been.

My husband and I thought it was normal to go through a slump after turning forty. But now that you’re out of the picture we feel and look better than we did in our 20’s. We celebrated your disappearance from our lives with a shopping spree because we both needed new pants—no more beer belly or muffin top. We didn’t really need to lose weight, but that nagging five (ok, maybe 10) pounds just melted off. I don’t need to suck in my stomach anymore, and I may even wear a bikini again. We may need to find a beach this winter now that we’re back down to fighting weight. Our aches and pains have disappeared, too.

So good-bye, wheat. As Taylor Swift might say, we are never, ever, ever getting back together.


(I know. I thought it was crazy too. Wheat? Really? How could something so supposedly “heart-healthy” be this bad? Start doing your own research and see what you find out; Google something like “dangers of wheat.” A great book is Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis. Better yet, do a little self-experimentation for a week. I bet you’ll want to break up, too.)

I did it 5 months ago. No more IBS! Poof, gone, vanished in only 2 days after I quit wheat. I'll never go back to it. Psoriasis cleared up and so did dry cracked heels. I did read Wheat Belly after I went off wheat but I really don't need any convincing.
