Crime Report: Fenton Man Headed to Prison for Child Abuse

A 35-year-old Fenton Township man has been sentenced to one year and eight months and a maximum of four years in prison after pleading no contest to second degree child abuse.

Police arrested John Shorez in November on charges that he repeatedly poked his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter in the eye after she accidentally kicked his 1-year-old son in the eye, according to WHMI 93.5 FM.

A 31-year-old Fenton man faces a charge of cocaine possession, after his vehicle was stopped for equipment violations on M-5 near 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills. According to the report, police smelled marijuana and alcohol while talking with the driver, and a 33-year-old Novi man who was a passenger in the vehicle knocked over an open can of beer as he opened his door. A search of the vehicle uncovered syringes and baggies of cocaine, the report indicated. Police ticketed the passenger for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

A 20-year-old Trenton man faces charges of possessing synthetic narcotics, driving under the influence of narcotics and driving with a suspended license after police arrived to help him with his disabled vehicle Wednesday night. According to the report, the car was on the side of the road at M-5 and Halsted i Farmington, with a flat tire. As the driver got out of the car, an officer spotted two white pills where he was sitting, and a search of the vehicle turned up three yellow pills. The report indicated a passenger in the vehicle, a 34-year-old Fenton woman, had an open can of an alcohol energy drink in the vehicle. While police were questioning the man, he lost consciousness and was taken to Botsford Hospital. Police ticketed the passenger for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
