Dog Dies in US 23 Crash

Dog ejected from vehicle in accident, while two drivers avoid major injuries in head-on collision.

One dog is dead, but two people are lucky to be alive after a dangerous car accident on US 23 early Sunday morning, police said.

Chief Rick Aro said a 36-year-old Brown City female swerved her 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada to avoid an animal on US 23 near Owen Road around 12:40 a.m. Sunday when she lost control of the vehicle, hit the guardrail and spun around. A dog that was sitting in her lap was ejected from the vehicle and was killed.

A few moments later a 60-year-old Flint male driving a pickup truck switched lanes to avoid slowing traffic and struck the woman’s stationary vehicle head on. Both drivers, however, did not suffer major injuries and refused medical treatment. Both were wearing seatbelts, Aro said.
