Driver Threatened on Old US 23, White Lake Man Arrested for Retail Fraud Swallows Razor Blade at Station

The following is a roundup of crime reports from the areas around Fenton.

On Nov. 19, a 53-year-old Waterford man was driving on Old US 23 and called 911 after another driver threatened him and then damaged his vehicle, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. 

Police said the incident occurred around 11 p.m. after the Waterford man had initially attempted to pass the car in front of him, which was travelling around 30 mph between Latson Road and Highland Road. 

The front car had swerved into the path of the victim’s car, according to the report, and the Waterford man was unable to pass, but eventually moved into the right lane of traffic at the light at Highland Road and Old US 23.

While at the light, police say, the driver of the first vehicle began yelling at the victim telling him he had a gun and then reached out his window and hit the car’s side mirror, breaking it.

Police say the suspect then told the victim to pull into the parking lot of the Speedway gas station, but the driver continued on down Highland Road.

According to the report, the victim then followed the suspect in his car down Highland Road past Leo’s Restaurant and continued to follow the car after it turned down an unknown road. The Waterford man was then advised by dispatch to stop following due to the threat of the gun.

The victim returned to the Speedway gas station where he gave a police report due to the damage to his vehicle.

Brighton home burglarized while family on vacation, items valued at more than $13,000

On Nov. 23, a Brighton woman reported that her home on the 1300 block of Pond Bluff Way had been broken into while her family had been on vacation, according to a police report.

Police say the woman returned home to find a gate leading into the back yard was open and a rock sitting at the base. After walking to the back of the house, the victim told police she saw a window had been broken which led into the home’s basement.

Items reported stolen from the home included a TV home theater system, Xbox 360, approximately 100 blue ray dvd’s, laptops and wrapped Christmas presents. Estimated value of total items stolen is more than $13,000 according to the report. 

The woman told police that her daughter had posted on Facebook about the family vacation.

Man Arrested for Retail Fraud Swallows Razor Blade at White Lake Police Station

A 44-year-old White Lake man remains in Oakland County Jail following an attempt to harm himself at the White Lake Police Station. Police officials said the man swallowed a razor blade while being held at the station for a retail fraud complaint.

According to the report, the man was arrested at Kohl's on Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. after loss prevention officers saw him attempting a fraudulent refund of more than $500 in items at the store.

The man was taken to the White Lake Police Station to be processed, and was placed in a holding cell because another call came in.

When the officers returned, they saw the man had fresh blood on his shirt. When asked why there was blood, the report states the man told police he swallowed a razor blade.

Lt. Don Nankervis said the man had been searched before being placed in the cell, and it's not known how he concealed the razor.

The man was transported to McClaren's Hospital where the razor was surgically removed from his throat. He also had cuts from the razor along his arms that were bandaged.

The man was arraigned on Nov. 23 on a felony charge of retail fraud. Nankervis said the man had a prior conviction for retail fraud that elevated the charge.

The man is being held at Oakland County Jail on a $30,000 cash bond.
