Family and Friends Remember Fenton Resident Patrick O'Rourke

The friends and family of fallen West Bloomfield Township Police officer and Fenton resident Patrick O'Rourke described him as a good father, loving husband, devoted Christian and all-around good guy.

"He's my best friend, and I want him to come home," the slain officer's widow, Amy O’Rourke, 37, told the Livingston Daily Press & Argus.

, a 12-year veteran of the West Bloomfield Police Department, was shot and killed by a man who barricaded himself in a home. O'Rourke was among a handful of officers that were shot at in an "ambush" style attack Sunday night, police say.

"Patrick is just an awesome guy," Steve Corry, O'Rourke's father-in-law, told the The Detroit News. "The kids just adored him. His wife is grieving because she lost her best friend."

"He went there to save this guy from himself," said O'Rourke's father, Dan.

O'Rourke graduated from Hartland High School in 1991 and lived with his wife and four children in Tyrone Township. The family attended .

"I was very involved in their marriage," Priest David Harvey told Fenton Patch. "He was a very, very faithful parishioner here."

O'Rourke started working as a police officer in West Bloomfield in 2000.

“They’re just extremely wonderful, nice people,” West Bloomfield Sgt. Tara Kane said of O’Rourke and his wife, according to the Detroit Free Press. “He’s probably the most-liked person in this building.”

A Facebook Page has been created in his memory that includes many photos of the family and many comments offering condolences.

The funeral mass for O'Rourke will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 2-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Highland (Township) Chapel of the Elton Black and Son Funeral Home at 3295 E. Highland Rd.

A rosary service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

O'Rourke will lie in state at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Rite of committal will be in St. John's Cemetery, Fenton.
