Fenton Woman Killed in Rollover Crash in Shelby Township

The two people inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday night in Shelby Township.

A 33-year-old Fenton woman and a 28-year-old Sterling Heights man and were killed Wednesday night after their vehicle ran off M-53 and rolled over several times, Shelby Township police said Thursday. 

At approximately 9:20 p.m., their vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed in the southbound freeway lanes and weaving in and out of traffic, witnesses told police. As the vehicle veered off the road into a wooded area and rolled, the male driver was ejected and the female passenger became trapped, police said. 

Neither of them wore seat belts at the time of the crash that may have involved alcohol, police said. 

Police did not release their names, pending the notification of family. 

Township police are continuing to investigate the accident.
