Investigation for Car Larcenies Continues

One man has been charged, police searching for others involved

Fenton Police have charged one man during an investigation into a run of vehicle break-ins, but the search for others involved continues.

Officials arraigned Michael Thomas Scott, 24, of Fenton in Genesee County District Court on Jan. 30 on charges of larceny of a vehicle and possession of heroin.

However, several police departments are cooperating to find others believed to be involved in dozens of car larcenies that occurred in December and January.

Both Sheriff’s Department and the Fenton Police are working with officials from Mundy and Argentine Townships as well, as the incidents occurred all around the area.

Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro said officers are also trying to track down owners of the alleged stolen property found in Scott’s vehicle and apartment on Jan. 26. Aro said officers approached Scott as he was suspected of drug activity at noon Jan. 26, while he was walking to an apartment on the 1500 block of Silver Parkway.

Aro said officers noticed property in the back of his red 1992 Ford Ranger, including headphones, which an officer recalled were recently reported stolen in a car larceny. Officers asked permission to search the truck and the man’s apartment, Aro said, and found several items believed to be stolen. Aro said the man admitted that some items were stolen property from in and around the Fenton area.

Aro said officers found several GPS systems, stereo equipment and tools. He said officers found thousands of dollars' worth of property the man had allegedly stolen. Aro said police received a partial confession from the man, and police have connected him to six larcenies.
