New Illegal Drug Seized From 2 Fenton Businesses

Police said two area businesses were selling Posh, a synthetic marijuana drug. The following arrest information was supplied by the city of Fenton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police have seized a new illegal drug from two Fenton businesses.

Chief Rick Aro said the department received a call about a month ago from a mother who said her son had gone to a Fenton tobacco shop and purchased Posh, a synthetic marijuana that is a psychoactive herbal and chemical product which, when consumed, mimics the effects of cannabis.

Aro said the drug is new to the Fenton area and it's the first time the police department has dealt with it.

Aro said the department contacted the Flint Area Narcotics Group (FANG), which conducted two undercover purchases from the store along with a purchase from a local gas station.

Aro declined to give the locations of the businesses, until the police department receives an arrest warrants from the Prosecutor’s Office.

Police executed a search warrant for the businesses on June 24, Aro said. Officers seized more than 50 small containers of suspected Posh, also called K2, from the tobacco shop, which had the drug hidden in the back of the store.

Aro said several containers of suspected Posh were also seized from a local gas station, which had the drug in plain view.

“Both owners said they were not aware the substance was illegal,” Aro said.

He added that Posh is a schedule 1 drug, meaning it is in a category of drugs not considered legitimate for medical use. Possession with intent to deliver with the amount the businesses had is a felony, Aro said.

“This is the first time we have dealt with it,” Aro said. “So far we only know of the two stores selling it, but we aren’t sure if they are the only ones.  For those who are selling it or have thought about selling it, it is an illegal schedule 1 drug.”

Aro said police have requested arrest warrants for the business owners.
