Police Blotter — Chihuahua Owner's Car Vandalized, Break-Ins at School, Business

The following arrest information was supplied by the Fenton Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The owner of a whose dog was taken Sunday and recovered by Fenton police that day, reported vandalism of her car Tuesday.

Chief Rick Aro said the 19-year-old Fenton woman made a malicious destruction of property complaint around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday. Officers responded to the 1000 block of Poplar Street, where the woman said her 2008 Chevy Cobalt was scratched with what appeared to have been a key, according to the police report. In addition, the gas tank door on the car was open and what appeared to be sugar was on the gas fill tube, the report said.

The woman told police she suspected her brother, a 22-year-old Fenton man, the report said. The woman said she had borrowed $500 from him to buy the dog and hadn't paid the money back yet, Aro said.

On Sunday, police were called to the residence for the reported theft of the dog, by the woman's brother. Officers recovered the pet at the house of another relative that evening, the report said.

Aro said a witness saw three people near the woman's vehicle Tuesday, one of whom matched the description of the Fenton man. Officers contacted that man as well as a 19-year-old Fenton man and a 21-year-old Holly woman. Police brought the three to the station for questioning.

The three admitted to causing damage to the complainant's vehicle, Aro said. Fenton Police Department will attempt to get warrants for all three for malicious destruction of property, he said. It is likely to be a felony charge.

Breaking and entering at Ellen Street school

Fenton Police patrol officers were dispatched to the early childhood campus on Ellen Street at 4 a.m. Wednesday in response to a motion alarm from inside the school, Aro said.

As officers checked the building, they observed two males who were running and exiting at the north doorway to the school, according to the police report. They pursued the men, caught them and brought them to the police station for questioning.

The suspects — an 18-year-old Fenton man and an 18-year-old Ortonville man — admitted to breaking and entering, Aro said. Police asked school personnel check for any stolen or damaged property at the building, but none has been reported.

The two suspects, who have not been arraigned, were lodged at the Genesee County Jail.

Cash missing after break-in at Silver Lake Road business

At 7:40 a.m. Friday, Fenton Police received a call regarding a break-in at , 713 Silver Lake Road. The store manager told police someone had broken into a cash register and snack vending machine and went through several offices in the building, Aro said. An undetermined amount of cash was missing.

The break-in appears to have taken place between 11 p.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday, Aro said. The suspect(s) may have been in the building for a long period of time, police have reason to believe.

"We are doing interviews with store employees to attempt to get more information," he said.

Police found evidence inside the store and are investigating, Aro said. There are no suspects at this time, he said.
